Meet Dale
His Roots
Dale Walters grew up in Flagstaff where his family has been established since the early 1900’s. Growing up he learned how to run equipment at the family cinder mining business and how to build homes from his uncle. Both skills would be a benefit when he and his wife Susie built their first home in Page, Arizona. He worked on ranches and has raised cattle and horses his entire life. He loves the outdoors and hunts and fishes all over the great state of Arizona. He has a tremendous love of history which is part of what drew him to Gila County.
His Family
Dale met his wife Susie in Flagstaff in 1988 while she was a student at Northern Arizona University, and he was punching cows on a local ranch. Their love of dancing and the outdoors sealed their relationship, and they married in 1989. They have four wonderful children and 3 grandchildren they absolutely adore. Their family has built a life from arduous work, dedication, and a sincere appreciation for the outdoors. They have hunted, built homes, camped, fished, and traveled the country together.
His Call To Service
Understanding the noble call for serving his community, Dale started his Law Enforcement career with Coconino County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 as a Detention Officer and later became a Deputy assigned to the county substation in Page, Arizona.
In 1995, he joined the Chandler Police Department. In his early years, he served as a patrol officer, field training officer, narcotic detective, and an internal affairs investigator.
In 2000, Dale was promoted to Sergeant and spent most of his time in this role as a Narcotics Unit Sergeant. He and his team worked on major conspiracy cases locally and across the country. They seized thousands of pounds of illicit drugs and millions of dollars in drug proceeds.
In 2007, Dale was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Division as a Shift Commander. He helped open the Chandler Heights Precinct and was the Lieutenant over the K9 Unit. In 2008, he was assigned to the Community Resources Section and oversaw training, the range, crime prevention, DARE, volunteer programs, and the school resource officers. In addition, he was selected to be the Support Commander for the Special Assignment Unit (SWAT).
Dale was promoted to Commander in 2010. His assignments included patrol budget, six patrol teams, bike team, special events, patrol administrative personnel, quartermaster, fleet, detention operations, and SWAT Commander. In 2013 Dale was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
In 2016, Dale became an Assistant Chief and led the Operations Division. His responsibilities included preparation and management of an annual budget, grant preparation and management, oversight, and leadership of 300+ sworn and non-sworn employees representing criminal investigations, dispatch, forensic services, records, property, traffic, SWAT, training, and community service.
In September 2018, Dale became the Chief of Police for the City of Globe. This position required a complete overhaul of the department from facilities, equipment, personnel, training, and departmental policies and procedures. The department was in dire need of redeveloping trust with the community it served. Dale met this challenge with tremendous focus on outcome, pouring all his energy and experience into positive change.
